Great Pics: Old Family Photographs Brought Back to Life

Great picks may exist in that forgotten box of photographs in the closet.
I am sure there are many tutorials on-line that can give you a step by step process on how to restore old photographs. I am only encouraging folks that have inherited old photos to not despair if they are faded, spotted, or have minor tears. Armed with a photo-scanner and some skill with Photo Shop or other picture editing software, you can do your own restoration work.

A friend rolled his eyes when I told him about colorizing some of the old photographs—purists really didn’t like the results of Turner Movies colorization. With the sensibilities of a painter, you can colorize tastefully with the right choice of color-fill, tuning the layer opacity, fill, and blending modes. Softening edges of the mask in channel palette with a Gaussian blur filter gives subtle results.

These heirloom pictures are family members who lived in Elyria and Oak Harbor, Ohio. If they look familiar to you—let me know, since my late-mother-in-law left a family tree but did not label the photographs.
